JACK’S FARM

About CSA:

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a mutually beneficial relationship between a local farm and it's shareholders. Shareholders purchase a share of the harvest prior to the season and in return receive a weekly supply of fresh seasonal vegetables. The members and farmers agree to share in the inherent benefits and risks of the agricultural season. The arrangement guarantees the farmer financial support and enables many smaller sustainable farms to stay in business.

About JACK'S CSA:

Our CSA program is one of 3 ways we market our products. At the current time we find it necessary to use multiple outlets to be financial viable (sustainable). We let our entire community of customers decide their preferred "buying channel" based on individual buying styles, philosophies, needs and wants. We grow a strong mix of produce for our CSA shareholders. We also grow small batches of less popular items for other channels.

Our CSA shareholders enjoy the surprise of the weekly share, can handle a variety of sometimes unusual vegetables, typically like greens, understand the concept of eating seasonally and can handle the risks of a very weather dependent business.

We offer both a spring/summer and a winter CSA.
You can purchase any combination. We offer the best value to year 'round participants.

The commitment our CSA shareholders make is very important to the stability and sustainability of our farm. We hope that, over time, CSA will be our primary method of distribution. With this in mind CSA shareholders always come first. The vegetables we grow are USDA Certified Organic.

2010 spring/ summer shares

What's in a spring/summer share:

We are a small scale suburban farm. Because of our size we are limited in the types of items we can grow. We can not grow items that require a lot of space, items like sweet corn, melons, etc. In the farming industry these items are called: land intensive. As of this writing small fruits like raspberries and strawberries, are not included in the share. So, please don't expect these items. We do on limited occasions "buy in" from a very local orchard apples, peaches and the like as a treat to our CSA shareholders. These bought in items may not be Certified Organic.

For a list of the potential veggies you might see in a share visit our fruits and veggies page or search for us on www.localharvest.org. Small fruits are currently not included in our CSA. Please remember these lists are only samples of what you can expect.

Spring/summer share size and types:

We provide a well rounded selection of seasonal produce. We offer pick your own opportunities including peas, beans, cut flowers, herbs and more. Currently, pick your own is available on your pick up day.

Weekly item count in the spring/summer ranges between 10-15 per share. We are committed to making sure that over the course of the season we provide our shareholders with an honest value for their financial commitment.

A half share is a full share picked up every other week. Because of the every other week rotation, a half shareholder might not receive some items during the season that a weekly full shareholder will receive. Half shares are priced to reflect the higher administrative effort that goes into juggling the every other week delivery.

Our full share spring/summer season runs 26 weeks from the middle of May+/- through the beginning of November. A half share picks up every other week for a total of 13 pick ups.

The start of JACK'S spring/summer CSA is weather dependent. We anticipate starting the last week of May or first week of June. Remember we need to have enough of each item to provide to the entire CSA.
